A Rocky Start
I remember some of my early experiences, in the 2000s. I had believed I knew exactly what to do and how to do it. When physics intervened, I realized I did not know. I made a lot of mistakes and learned a lot from the school of hard knocks. The errors were the hard facts that I needed to make major changes. One of the biggest changes I made was to accept that I did not know everything. Clients always expected me to know it all, and I thought I had to know everything!
Success Comes
There was no one to ask, and information was hard to find.
Fast forward to 2017, I hired a well-known industry expert to assist me on a couple of small projects. It started with Thom Blumenkamp, who had worked for Texas Pools. Then he introduced me to Lew Akins. It was from Lew that I learned a lot, including how to build infinity pools. He taught the essentials, via his course, which is no longer available today.
Success Comes
I went from not knowing, which I admitted, to successfully building infinity pools/spas.
My first project, pictured below, near Lake Conroe, Texas, was one of the most challenging pools I ever built.
The yard was so small we had to float in on a barge. We had no where to leave soil, no way to build retaining walls or use regular bell-bottom piers.
Construction of Infinity
We built a floating pool deck (shown in You Tube video) with a pool on helical piles (crazily perched above the cables holding up the bulkhead). We only almost hit one, while screwing in the helical piles.
Since those days, which seem an eternity ago, I developed more, by taking on several workshops with Watershape University.
